Dirt Hookup

Questions and answers

Short answers about posting, matches, privacy, hauling and clean fill. Something missing? Ask us.

Is Dirt Hookup free?

Yes. Posting, searching, matches, alerts and the business directory are free. The hauling desk quotes a price for the truck only when you ask for one. Paid extras (premium posts, PRO, featured spots) are listed on the pricing page and open later.

Do I need an account?

No. You confirm each listing with one click on an email link, and the same email carries your private manage link. There is no password.

Who sees my address?

Nobody. A listing shows your city and ZIP. The map pin sits within about half a mile of the ZIP centre, not on your house. You share your exact address yourself, with the person you choose.

How do people contact me?

Through the message form on your listing. Their message, name, email and phone come to you by email. They do not see your email unless you reply. You can show your phone on the listing if you tick that box.

What are matches?

Listings of the opposite kind near yours: if you have dirt, people who need it; if you need dirt, people who have it. Your private page scores them on distance, quantity, material and price. New matches reach you by email once a day.

How long does a listing stay up?

45 days. Remove it earlier with the link in your email. Three reports from other users hide a listing until we look at it.

Is the dirt free?

Usually. Someone with a pile pays to dump it, so giving it away saves them money. Some listings name a price per yard; some people offer to pay to have it taken. The listing says which.

What is clean fill?

Soil, sand or rock with no trash, roots, concrete, asphalt or chemicals. Posters tick what is in their pile. You look before you accept. We do not test soil.

How many cubic yards fit in a truck?

A tandem dump truck carries about 12 to 14 loose yards; a tri-axle about 16 to 18; a pickup bed 1 to 2. Yards of loose dirt settle after compaction, so order a little more than the hole.

What does Get it hauled do?

It sends our hauling desk the load, the pickup ZIP, the destination or "haul it away", the dates and your contact. We get a per-load price from dump-truck operators near you and email you a quote. You accept or not. No charge for the quote.

Do I need a permit?

Sometimes. Grading, filling a lot and bringing in large volumes are regulated by cities and counties, and wetlands by federal rules. Rules vary; ask your city or county before a big job. The permit is the customer's responsibility.

Can I list my hauling company, yard or dump site?

Yes, free. Fill in the business form, confirm your email, and your page shows on every city page inside your service radius and in the directory.

How do alerts work?

You give a ZIP, a radius and what you want. We email you once a day when a new listing matches. The email has a stop link.

What about scams and spam?

Every listing, message and business page needs a confirmed email, and we rate-limit posting. Never pay a deposit to someone you have not met, and never send money for dirt you have not seen. Report anything odd with the button on the listing.
